The first time Briana and Joe officially met was at “Clam Island”, a sand bar near the Barnegat Lighthouse. Briana and her family were settled at the sand bar when Joe arrived with some family friends. Briana’s extended family had been friends with Joe’s family for years, but the two had never formally been introduced. Shortly after Joe arrived at the sand bar, Briana’s younger cousin Megan, who had wanted the two to meet for years, jumped on Joe’s back demanding that he meet Briana. Despite Briana and Joe meeting for the first time that day, it was not until a few years later that Joe worked up the courage to officially ask Briana on a date.  Barnegat Lighthouse Engagement Session Barnegat Lighthouse Engagement Session

The proposal:
July 27, 2019 started as a girl’s lunch that included Briana, her mother, grandmother, aunt and three cousins as well as Joe’s mother, grandmother, three sisters and his grandmother’s caregiver. As the lunch was coming to an end, Briana’s father showed up with a message in a bottle from Joe. Her father explained that Joe was sending Briana on a scavenger hunt throughout Long Beach Island, NJ and that the message in the bottle provided the first location. The scavenger hunt involved sending Briana to four different locations, with family members waiting with the next clue in a bottle. Every location had a significant meaning. For example, the first location was where Briana and Joe first said “I love you.” The second location was where Joe first asked Briana out on a date, and the third location was where the couple shared their first date. Joe was waiting for Briana at the last location, the Barnegat Lighthouse, in a heart made from rose petals where he asked Briana to marry him.

Joe, Briana and both of their families celebrated at her grandparents’ shore house where they popped champagne and shared their excitement. Later that night, everyone enjoyed a dinner at Hotel LBI.

What’s your favorite thing about each other?
Briana: My favorite thing about Joe is his heart. The way that his heart loves me, and makes sure there is never a day that I don’t feel loved. His heart is gentle, patient, compassionate and affectionate. I’ve never met anyone like Joe and his love has forever changed me.
Joe: My favorite thing about Briana is how she sees the world.  She always helps me to see the good in even the darkest of times, and never lets me dwell on the things that upset me.  Above all else, she constantly reminds me of all the love and happiness that people sometimes tend to overlook in our day to day life.  She inspires me to be the best version of myself, and I am so lucky that I get to spend the rest of my life with her.
