How did you meet:
Michael and I met the summer before our freshman year at The University of Scranton during orientation. We were the best of friends towards the end of college. Fast forward to the January after graduating college, Michael was in his first year of law school, and I was in my first year of grad school. Michael asked me to go with him to his Barrister’s Ball (the law school version of a formal), and the rest is history! We have been together every since.
The proposal:
A few weeks before Michael proposed, we had plans to go to dinner in Princeton and walk around the beautiful town. Unfortunately, we got caught up and weren’t able to go. We then made plans to go to dinner by where he lives on Long Island a few weeks later, and Michael said he knows of a nice park nearby that we could go venture around beforehand. The timing ended up working out perfectly, since he had been planning this proposal for months, so I didn’t think anything of it when he suggested going to the park beforehand. It was a BEAUTIFUL day in November, and we went to the Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park in Oyster Bay, NY. We walked around for a little until he brought me to a spot in the park where he got down on one knee and proposed! He had also asked his neighbor to take pictures while it was happening, and we ended up having a mini photo shoot around the park after. He later told me that he went to the park earlier in the week to find the perfect spot to propose (how cute?!).
After the park, we went to dinner, where both of our families were waiting! My brother lives in Texas, so my dad had him on Facetime so he could be there too. The surprises weren’t even over there! After dinner, we went back to his family’s house for dessert, and Michael said that he planned a night for us in NYC. A year earlier, we bought tickets to go to the top of the Empire State Building, but never found a time to go. (We have lived outside of NYC our whole lives, but have never done any touristy activities). Once we got into the city, we went straight to the Empire State Building. There were no lines to get in, and it was a perfectly clear night to see the city lights. Michael planned a truly amazing day, and I still am overwhelmed by the amount of love that we felt.
What do you love most about each other?
Jackie: I love Michael’s passion and dedication. I live in New Jersey, and Michael lives in Long Island, NY. He was in law school the first 3 years of our relationship, and he did everything in his power to make sure we were together almost every weekend while balancing his schoolwork. There would be weekends where he would drive to NJ just for a day to make sure he saw me.Throughout those years, his dedication and passion for the field was so evident, I couldn’t help but admire that about him, and how he put those same qualities into making our relationship grow into what is it, even though it was long distance. Even before we started dating, he was my best friend, our relationship just came easy. I can’t imagine my life without him!
