How did you meet?
For quite some time our mutual friends pushed for us to meet each other since they felt we’d “hit it off”. We briefly met once, but then continued to miss each other on multiple occasions. It somehow took a year before we officially met and our friends weren’t wrong. We both weren’t looking for a relationship, but decided to go on double date with our friends KellyAnne and Mike. 6 1/2 years later… we’re married AND they’re married and were both in our wedding!
The Proposal!
In the days leading up to the proposal, MarkE had been gone for a weekend trip. We were missing each other and couldn’t wait to be together. Instead of coming straight home, MarkE asked if I would meet him at the beach, which was a usual part of our lives. We’ve both always lived near the beach, so it’s been a special place for us both separately and together.
MarkE claimed there was a meteor shower that night that he wanted to see. I didn’t really want to go because it was an overcast, misty, chilly day in May. I wasn’t sure why he wanted to go so badly, but I WAS sure we wouldn’t see anything in the sky!
I almost didn’t go, as I asked him to come home instead. He now says he was nervous, but somehow knew I’d wind up going. He knows me well…He was right! He seemed so excited, so of course I was willing to battle the elements for whatever his plan was! LOL
We absolutely didn’t see a meteor shower, but what did happen was way better and goes down as the best beach walk we’ve ever taken!

Why did you pick your venue?
Smithville has been a place I’ve visited with my mom for many years. I took MarkE there when we started dating and he naturally started to love the comforting feeling it brings to those who visit. We continued to visit as much as we could and it eventually became a place we’d visit a few times a year. When we started looking at venues, we knew The Smithville Inn would be on our list. When we left, we looked at each other and said “Let’s do it!”. There was an unexplainable feeling that we knew there wasn’t another venue for us. Its historic and intimate feel is exactly what we imagined and we couldn’t have chosen a better fit. We’ve already been back to Smithville 3 times since our wedding and can’t wait to reminisce there for years and years!
Tell us about all the details of the wedding!
The details were spot on to what we envisioned. We’re both teachers, so planning comes pretty naturally to us. It’s always difficult to imagine what the day will look like when you start planning years in advance, but it was more than we could have asked for. A rustic, romantic feel with ivory laces, greenery, wood accents and of course beautifully bloomed Cherry Blossom Trees to make for the best pictures! From start to finish it was magical!
Favorite moment of the day?
This is hard to choose. Getting to see each other at our first look and finally hearing our names announced as husband and wife are definitely on the top of the list! We waited a long time for this day and to see all the special moments unfold so beautifully was incredible!
Where are you going on your honeymoon?
Maui and Kauai, Hawaii! We can’t wait!
