Most wedding photographers have that one dream venue that they have been dying to shoot a wedding at…for me, it was Terrain at Styers. When I met with Melissa and Truman, I couldn’t have been more excited! Melissa told me that her father, Jay, is actually a wedding photographer (Trenton Photographers) as well, so she kind of knew the business a little.
The morning started at a local hair salon where the girls were getting hair and makeup done. I was at Melissa’s house around the corner having a blast all by myself shooting all of her gorgeous wedding details! All of the flowers were from the floral shop where Melissa’s mom, Antionette, works. These flowers were AMAZING! Like, literally my favorite bouquet I have ever seen at one of my weddings!
Antionette helped Melissa get into her beautiful Maggie Sottero gown. Melissa looked breathtaking heading down the stairs and her dad got choked up when he first saw her.
Truman and his guys got ready at a hotel near the venue. His one request was a picture with his mini cooper! He looked so GQ posing with his car, I just love that shot!
Next we headed over to Terrain! My heart was racing when I got there and started to look around! I was super pumped to start taking pictures, there were so many cool spots! Melissa and Truman had a first look in front of the historic mushroom house. Truman was so sweet, wiping away the happy tears from Melissa’s cheek. We strolled through the grounds, which were a horticultural garden center, shop, and cafe. These two were naturals..not that I was really surprised, as Melissa grew up in front of her dads camera! At one point, I stole Melissa away for some bridal portraits. She started to get emotional and said, ” You just know when you found the right one, and I’m so happy.” I have photographed hundreds of weddings, and no one has ever said that to me! I got teary eyed and in that moment I felt such much joy for her, and I was so happy to be the one capturing their wedding day!
After the bride and groom photos, we took some pictures with their bridal party..what a great group this was! Its was a smaller bridal party, which is always my favorite, as it just seems more relaxed when there aren’t so many people.
The ceremony site is actually an Indian temple decorated with white drapes and floral garland. The chairs had mason jars with flowers, and my favorite part..a sign that said “No phones or cameras beyond this point” LOL (score!)
Melissa’s dad couldn’t take his eyes off his beautiful daughter as he waked her down the aisle. Truman and his new bride exchanged vows and rings in a very quick, but very sweet ceremony.
The reception was held in the restored barn and was filled with tons of gorgeous farm tables. The decor inside was just insane! The tables were adorned with chalkboard table numbers, linen runners, and the centerpieces had mismatched vases on top of wood slices with delicate florals. The favors were seeded envelopes that said “let love grow”. There were an over abundance of pretty string lights throughout the entire barn, including the backdrop for the dance floor. The room itself had a truly organic feel, with bookshelves lined with tin vases and plants everywhere you looked.
The couple shared their first dance with their initials hanging on the barn door behind them. The parent dances were super sweet and the speeches were heartfelt. The overall feel of the reception was super laid back and the guests mingled about from the tables to the bar to the outdoor area where there was a fire pit with s’mores and corn hole. I couldn’t be happier with how this wedding turned out!
Melissa and Truman are currently on their honeymoon on a Mediterranean cruise! Congratulations to this amazing couple!
