How did you meet?We met through work. For almost 2 years we were working for the same company, in the same group, and even attended some of the same events. However we never crossed paths. In the summer of 2015 we attended the same week-long training in Atlanta, GA and happened to be taking the same class together. On the first day, I was one of the last to arrive and the only open seat was next to Tommy. We got along right away and talked throughout the entire day. The following day, I again was one of the last to arrive, however this time no seats were left. Tommy spotted me and without saying a word to each other, found an empty chair across the room, got the chair and put it right next to him for me to sit. And the rest is history…
The Proposal!
It was Labor Day weekend (September 2018) and we were spending the long weekend at home, in Hoboken, NJ. We were on our way to brunch when Tommy detoured me to Castle Point in Steven’s Campus. Castle Point is a special place for us as we often come here together to relax and enjoy the view of NYC. As we were approaching the tip of Castle Point, I noticed someone familiar sitting and waiting for us. That someone was Tommy’s best friend who flew up from Charleston. Realizing who it was, I was completely caught off guard followed by Tommy getting down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Following the proposal, our family and close friends were waiting for us nearby for a celebration. It was one of the best days of our lives.
Why did you pick your venue?
When planning our wedding, we always envisioned our reception to be by the water. Tommy grew up on the Long Island Sound, spending summers and weekends out on his family boat. We have the best memories there together and with our families and only saw it fitting to say our I do’s there. Orienta Beach Club was the perfect venue for us. It was a waterfront venue with incredible views of the Sound and also had the classic coastal charm we wanted for our wedding.
Tell us about all the details of the wedding!
Our wedding was described as an “organic & fresh affair on the water set in a sophisticated tone”. When thinking of the details of our wedding, we were going for a romantic, organic/neutral and formal vibe that went along with our water front venue. We had loose greenery hanging everywhere that went along with our beautiful white and pink florals. We also had blue glass goblets and grey taper candles on all of the tables that complimented our back drop, the Long Island Sound. Our favorite detail from our reception was the beer boat display we had during cocktail hour. We draped loose greenery on a boat that was filled with ice and beer which was the focal point of the cocktail hour and a big hit with all of the guests! Looking back, seeing all of our family and friends together in one place, enjoying themselves, dancing and making new memories was all we could have asked for.
Favorite moment of the day?
Aside from seeing each other for the first time during our ceremony, our favorite moment of the day was seeing our reception for the first time. Following our ceremony, we headed over to our venue with just our families and the bridal party. After all the months of hard work, seeing all of the details come together and enjoying it with just our families and bridal party before the reception was so special for us.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We went to South Africa and the Seychelles for our honeymoon! Our honeymoon was a mix of adventure and relaxation which was perfect for us. We spent a couple days exploring Capetown which consisted of beautiful hikes, culture and amazing food. We also went to South Africa wine country where we had delicious wines and learned so much about the history of South Africa. Our favorite part of the trip was the safari, where we spent a couple of days in Krueger National Park. Seeing the big five and the animals in their natural habitats was incredible and an experience we feel so lucky to have experienced. Finally, we wended our honeymoon in the Seychelles which was so beautiful and relaxing!
