I absolutely LOVED working with Meghann and Austin for their Asbury Park engagement portraits this Fall! Meghann and Austin live around this area. So, it was fun to visit their favorite places and just explore together, all while they were dressed to the nines! Again: LOOOVE! After spending the day with Meghann and Austin (and their videographer Kyle – more on that in a minute), I can’t wait for their August wedding at Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club!
Asbury Park Engagement Portraits
We kicked off Meghann and Austin’s portraits right on the boardwalk at Asbury Park. There was something so classic about capturing them near the landmarks of the area. Right after, we headed down to the beach, where they had fun playing in the sand and popping some champagne. They were truly just.having.fun – and that’s how the “magic happens” at sessions!
Before leaving the area, we even convinced one of the local restaurants to let us use their elevator for some sexy photos! Our session ended at the St. Laurent Restaurant. They were so nice to open the doors before the public could come in! It allowed us to have the space to ourselves. Meghann and Austin got close and steamy for the last bit of our session. Honestly, they’re some of my favorite photos because they just relaxed and enjoyed themselves – forgetting we were there!
Meghann and Austin asked their videographer, Kyle, of Backstory Wedding Films to join us for their engagement session. This was such a unique idea and super fun! Kyle was amazing and I was in awe of his footage from the session (see a peek here!). I can’t wait to work with Kyle again on their wedding day!
Tell us about the proposal!
The day before the proposal, there was an awful rainstorm, causing flooding in and around the beach, including where we live here in New Jersey! Little did I know that the next day, Austin gathered friends and family to watch our proposal happen live from the second floor of Stella Marina, a restaurant along the Asbury boardwalk. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows gave them the best bird’s eye-view of the whole thing. I’ll never forget looking up and seeing everyone crying and smiling ear-to-ear. What’s more incredible is that the whole day it continued to rain, stopping for the sun to come out right before Austin got down on one knee. Iconic.
What did you love most about your engagement session?
Susan was a true professional! She was open to our creative ideas, but also reigned us in with certain technical aspects that we’d overlooked, like the sun shining at the wrong angle. In the beginning, I was worried it’d be awkward having an intimate session in front of the camera, but Susan’s fun-loving personality quickly relaxed us. Susan went the extra mile to make sure we could capture our photos in the locations that meant the most to us. Plus, she was a trooper to photograph us on a 40-degree day!
What part of your wedding day are you looking forward to most?
We’re looking forward to the wedding day being magical, celebrating with our family and friends, obviously. But I’d be lying if I didn’t express how excited I am for the photos. It’s my number one thing. There’s something so special about capturing a moment in time, one that we can look back on for years to come, and feel the same emotions that we did on that day. If there’s anything I know about Susan, it’s that she’ll go out of her way to get us creative shots. And as someone who is a fellow creative, that’s all you can ask for!
